My buddy Andy lost his battle to recover from a massive stroke he suffered this past summer. He put up a good fight. It was just too much to overcome.
We have a weekly golf group, called the “White-Haired Old Farts” (aka, WHOFers), of about 15 guys. Andy joined our group just a few short years ago. He had a wry sense of humor and his game kept improving.
The photo above is of most of the group, hoisting a toast to Andy at San Marcos Golf Course yesterday (January 14, 2025). Good whiskey, good friends, and a nice memory of a truly good guy.
After his stroke, a few of us began to visit him in the hospital, then in the rehab clinic, then at his home for watching Saturday college football. It seemed that he was getting better. Then all of a sudden he passed.
I don’t know why his passing has affected me to much. It just has. Many people in my circle have crossed over the rainbow bridge in the past few years – parents, sister, friends, classmates, professors – even pets. It’s the circle of life, although it’s never easy to watch it unfold.
Now Andy has joined the expanding list. I miss him and I think about him a lot.

Andy was a kindred spirit to many of us Whofers, we shared similar views of the world and enjoyed traveling, golf, a little nip after birdies, “birdie juice” and enjoying family and friends. We will miss him but he is with us in our daily thoughts and prayers. May his soul rest in peace and provide comfort to his family and friends.

Well said, Mark. Thanks.
